Meet the Team
Within the SEND, Pastoral, and Mentor Teams, there is a wealth of knowledge and experience in supporting students with learning barriers.
These include concerns related to Literacy and Numeracy, academic and personal matters, family support needs, expertise with Looked After Children, staff experienced in managing behavioural issues, communication needs, physical or sensory difficulties, cognitive or learning needs, as well as mental or emotional health challenges.
When appropriate, students will be allocated time with a team member to support their progress at school and to help boost their self-esteem and confidence in their own abilities to succeed.
Our Inclusion team works with a wide variety of students, all of whom have Special Educational Needs or English as an Additional Language. They provide in-class support to those students with the highest needs, alongside offering intervention and support programs to help close any learning gaps identified, particularly in Literacy and Numeracy.

Assessment
Our dedicated staff focus on identifying students who may need additional support to reach their potential. This process occurs during each assessment cycle and considers factors linked to the four areas of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) defined by the New Code of Practice.
Our “Graduate Approach” is an assess-plan-do-review cycle. We gather comprehensive information from teachers, parents, the student, and outside agencies to understand the student’s needs and responses to various teaching methods. Once documented, the plan becomes a dynamic tool that tracks progress toward outcomes and allows for necessary adjustments. While multiple practitioners may share responsibilities, it’s essential to have one individual manage the plan and evaluate results. The SENDCO holds this role, though other qualified staff may be involved when appropriate. This approach ensures accountability and focuses on achieving the best outcomes for each student.
By using the assess-plan-do-review cycle, we’ve gained insights into how to support our students. After collaborating with our inclusion consultant, we’re starting the process of applying for Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP) with the local authority. EHCP plans will be reviewed annually with input from staff, parents, and students, as we aim for a bright future together.
At Stanley High School, we work hand in hand with Sefton Special Educational Needs and Inclusion Service (SSENIS) and other specialists to ensure every child receives the support they need.
In line with the Equality Act 2010, Stanley High School is committed to upholding the right of everyone to realise his or her full potential, whatever their ethnic origin, gender, sexual orientation, disability or disadvantage, by making the most effective use of their skills and talents, both for the benefit of others and to achieve self-fulfilment.
Accessibility and Support
We are committed to making sure every student can access all areas of school life.
Our building has wheelchair access and toilets for students and staff with disabilities.
We have a dedicated support base where students with additional needs can feel safe and supported during breaks and other unstructured times. There’s also a medical room and a full-time first aider on site.
We provide equipment and resources to help all students, including those with mobility challenges, take part in the curriculum. Our staff are trained to support learning across different subjects, including practical and specialist areas.
The school is part of the Sefton Local Authority provision. Sefton’s Local offer can be found by following the link below:

At all times, we follow the Special Educational Needs Code of Practice (2014) and ensure that we meet all statutory requirements and expectations alongside observing our SEND Policy.
If a parent/carer feels that they need to make a complaint about any aspect of the school’s Special Educational Needs provision, they should follow the Trust’s complaints procedure.
Advice to parents and carers
Please use only authenticated, reliable sources to support your SEND journey. There are so many websites offering misinformation and unregulated providers offering support, it can be difficult to navigate what you can trust. If in doubt, please contact us in the first instance for any information or guidance. Alternatively, we would recommend the following as reliable sources of support.
