This year, we took part in BookTrust’s Bookbuzz programme. BookTrust, is the UK’s largest children’s reading charity that transforms lives by getting children and families reading. Bookbuzz has enabled all our Year 7 & 8 students to have the exciting opportunity to choose a book out of sixteen different titles – to keep, for free! The books are carefully selected by a panel of experts to ensure quality, suitability and to inspire the love of reading. Additionally, we hope this will encourage the students to read more frequently, which will help improve their well-being and spark interesting conversations and inspire creativity.
The books have now arrived, and we have had some excited students! Your child may have already shown you their new book, if not, you may want to ask them about it to start the conversation about reading. If your child is yet to receive their book, please do not worry, they will be receiving it soon.
Additionally, all the Year 7 & 8 students will be given a project to complete about their chosen book – this will be to write a book review. They will have four weeks to complete this, although we don’t expect all students to have finished their book in four weeks, but it would be fantastic if they did! We would just like them to review what they have managed to read so far. We are really looking forward to reading some of their reviews, and there will be prizes for the best ones!
