Glasgow trip a fantastic experience for students

Day 1 of the Glasgow trip saw our students leave school at 8am for a 4-hour drive up north. Our first activity was a 90-minute coaching session with Celtic Academy coaches, where the students were able to showcase their skills in a range of different activities that focused on skill development, conditioned practices, and small-sided games. Our second activity was a tour of Celtic Park, where our fantastic host gave us a history lesson on Celtic’s past successes. Our final activity of the day was for the students to face each other in bowling games before heading to the hotel in City Centre, Glasgow.

Day 2 of the trip to Glasgow saw Team 1 have their fixture against Lusk United from Dublin. After an even game for such a long period, Team 1 lost 4-2. Once the match had finished, it was time for Team 2 and Team to showcase their skills again as they had their second training activity with Celtic coaches. In the afternoon, we saw our students experience a Celtic first-team match against Hearts. All enjoyed the game as the students wore their Celtic buckets hats, cheering them on to a 3-0 victory. In the evening, the students freshened themselves up and enjoyed a lovely Italian meal at Di Maggios, where pizza and ice cream were absolute treats.

Day 3 of the Glasgow trip saw our students have their final activities. The morning started with Team 1’s final training session with one of Celtic’s coaches. By this point, it was clear to see the students were beginning to get tired legs after all of their hard work over the three days. Teams 2 and 3 then played against local opposition Pollock United and West Park FC. Special mention goes to Team 3, which put in a solid performance to win their game 1-0. It was smiles all around!! From there, the students stopped at McDonald’s before returning to Stanley with some very tired legs. Well done to all students for their efforts, and now the PE department can look forward to the next trip, which is Salou 2026.

The trip was a fantastic experience for all concerned. The students were exemplary in representing the school, and their behaviour was fantastic throughout.
