Remote Education

This section provides information to clarify and transparently inform pupils and their parents or carers about what to expect from remote education if necessary.

What Will We Deliver

We are committed to aligning remote work closely with our standard curriculum in situations requiring mandatory remote education. This means we will teach the same curriculum remotely as in school whenever possible and appropriate. Some adaptations may be required for certain subjects, such as Design Technology, Art, Music, and Computer Science, as students may not have access to the specialist equipment or facilities available on school premises.

Remote Education

We expect that remote education, including remote teaching and independent work, will closely align with the school day for each year group. We are dedicated to delivering outstanding learning during each of our five teaching periods every day, which will occur at the exact times as they would in school, with standard break and lunch times for each year group.

Our Microsoft SharePoint platform will deliver many lessons live.  This system also allows access to materials and independent work for each subject.

Accessing Remote Education

All materials and teaching for remote education will take place through our Microsoft SharePoint. Additional online resources may be necessary for specific subjects, but these will always be accessed via Microsoft SharePoint. We recognise that some pupils may not have suitable online access or equipment at home. As a school, we have worked to identify all students facing difficulties in this regard and have proactively ensured awareness of each child’s circumstances so that we can offer support when needed. Parents should contact their child’s year group team if they need assistance.

Remote Teaching

We utilise a combination of the following approaches to teach our students remotely:

Live teaching (online lessons): During remote education, our teachers are primarily based at the school site and will strive to deliver lessons in a manner similar to in-person teaching when possible.

Recorded teaching: This generally includes recordings made by our teachers, but we may also use additional resources when beneficial.

Textbooks and reading materials: Students will use the textbooks and reading books they have at home as part of their regular study practices.

Commercially available websites: We will use platforms that support the teaching of specific subjects, such as  MathsPad for Mathematics, Kerboodle for Science, The EverLearner for PE, and Planet eSteam for video-based teaching across all subjects. Our ePlatform library also provides students with access to a vast collection of books.

Engagement and Feedback

We expect students to fully engage with their remote education during regular school hours.  Attendance will be tracked and monitored as usual, and the school will reach out if attendance does not meet our high standards.  Parents and carers can support us by establishing routines at home to enhance their child’s education.

We will use standard classroom assessment strategies as much as possible during live lessons. Lesson work will typically be completed in workbooks, but teachers may also ask students to submit their work via the Microsoft SharePoint platform for regular class assessments when needed.

Support for Students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

We recognise that some students, particularly those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), may require support from adults at home to access remote education.  We understand the challenges this can create for families and will collaborate with parents and carers to provide support in the following ways:

  • Adapted work
  • Personalised Microsoft SharePoint access monitored by a dedicated member of the SEND team
  • Bi-weekly communication from a dedicated SEND team member for students with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP)
  • Weekly communication from a dedicated SEND team member for those receiving school support
  • A dedicated Microsoft form for parents with children who have SEND to use as a direct communication tool throughout remote learning
  • Active online support during live lessons for our most vulnerable SEND students.
  • Dedicated return-to-school meetings for parents with SEND children upon request.

We aim to ensure all students can successfully engage in remote education by maintaining open communication and providing targeted support.
