  • Wednesday 11th October at 10.15am
  • Monday 16th October at 9.15am.

Year 7 Parent/Tutor Evening

Last night Year 7 parents/carers were invited into school to meet with their child’s tutor. The meeting was to discuss how their child had settled into high school and to discuss any concerns they might have. I am pleased to say we had a fantastic turn out and all the students and parent/carers are extremely happy with how they have settled in. Should you have any concerns in the future, please contact your child’s form tutor in the first instance.

Art

The Little Sweet CoThe Art department are running a competition to produce a piece of artwork based on the theme of sweets. The winning entry will be judged at Christmas by The Little Sweet Co. and the winning piece of artwork will be awarded a ‘Retro’ candy box.

The Little Sweet Co was established in 2012 in Chorley and we are pleased to be working with them on this competition. If you have any questions about the competition please contact Mrs Ward and good luck Year 7.

Mrs Ward’s creative work of the week goes to Kayleigh Harrison in Year 9 for her lovely textile work. Kayleigh has been working in her own time to produce these gorgeous pieces.

The frog is made from fabric and filled with beans so it can be placed in different positions and the butterfly has been sewn using cross stitch. Well done Kayleigh, keep up the hard work.

Lizzie Barton in Year 9 has drawn a stunning picture of Formby woods for her GCSE homework looking at texture and tone.

Year 7 students have created some fantastic pictures of feathers using a variety of products.

Sally O’Hanlon has created a final piece inspired by a fashion illustrator based on an Alice in Wonderland theme.

Making a Buzz about Books!

BookbuzzBook Buzz was launched on Monday 18th September, giving every student in Years 7 and 8 a free book.  There are 15 exciting new titles to choose from, all of which are available for you to see on the Book Buzz website https://www.booktrust.org.uk/supporting-you/practitioners/our-programmes/bookbuzz/. There is also a copy of each book in Room 7.

Students will be ordering their books in their English lessons, and the books will be delivered to the school in the coming weeks. The only difficult part will be deciding which book to choose!

Each fortnight during form time there will a specific spelling and grammar focus for the students.  This information is also available online for parents/carers and students should they wish to work on it at home.  Please follow the link below to see the fortnightly focus for this half term.

Primary Visits

This week Year 6 students from St Johns in Crossens visited us. The students took part in a number of activities including PE, Languages, Food Technology and Science. All the students had a fantastic time, especially setting off the rockets in Science. Throughout the day the Year 6 students were supported by our fantastic Subject Leaders.

Girls Netball

Our Year 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 girls netball teams recently played a round of fixtures against Meols Cop. Special mention has to go to Year 7 who won a close game in their first fixture and Year 11 who had a comprehensive victory in their game. Although Year 8 and 9 suffered defeat there is no doubt that their attitude in training will see some positive results. However the game of the night belongs to Year 10 who played in a thrilling 7-6 defeat.

Rugby News

Stanley are pleased to say that they have secured the services of Southport’s Community Officer, Paul Cromack, to train with both the boys and girls after school. A number of 7-a-side and 15-a-side tournaments have been arranged for both our boys and girls and we look forward to building on the success of the Year 9 and 10 girls who performed splendidly in their first contact tournament.
