I would like begin by wishing you a very Happy New Year and I hope you have had an enjoyable break.
2016 ended on a positive note as the term concluded with individual year celebration assemblies led by your child’s Year Leader, then followed by a whole school assembly in which we showcased some of the acts from the excellent Christmas Extravaganza. It was also pleasing to see so many students being awarded their bronze merit badges for achieving 100 merit points since September 2016.
This week and also Monday and Tuesday next week I will be speaking to all year groups in assemblies about positive attendance and also their uniform to and from school. As you will have been aware from the Groupcall before Christmas, lunch will now be at 12:15 every day and students will now have 2 lessons in the afternoon. Students will also have supervised access to classrooms at break and lunch while the weather remains cold, on a trial basis. It will be the responsibility of each form group to ensure that the classrooms are left tidy for afternoon lessons.
2017 promises to be an exciting chapter in the life of the school and I value your continued support in your child’s education.
Mr N Moore
If you are a speaker of Welsh, or know anyone who speaks Welsh and would be interested in helping out a student during the examination period, please contact the Examination Officer, Mr Battistini, who will give you further details.
Mrs Ward is already pleased with the start to 2017 with lots of students handing in their Christmas holiday homework on the first day back; she was overwhelmed with the hardworking students and they will all receive a merit. She was also particularly impressed with Year 7 and the amount of homework handed in early and to a very high standard. So much so that next week it will be difficult to decide on a creative work of the week.
Drama club will be continuing on Wednesday 11th January in Room 33 from 3-4pm for any student who would like to come along to play a variety of Drama games as well as exploring short scripts for performance. New members always welcome from any year group. See Miss Cassidy for more information.
We have a target of 95% attendance and work hard every day to beat this. The whole school attendance for week ending 20th December was 93.9%.
Congratulations to 7CRL, 8MEM and 10PER for achieving 100% attendance.
