Rotary Young Chef Competition
Double Congratulations go to Ruby and Jodie in Year 11 who competed against entrants from local schools at the Rotary Club Young Chef Competition last Friday.
Both students were outstanding with Ruby achieving 1st prize and Jodie 2nd prize. The competition, held at Southport College, had to produce a two-course healthy meal for 2 people.
The judges, professionals in the food industry, were greatly impressed with their ambitious menus which showed high-level culinary skills, beautiful presentation and delicious flavours.
Myself, Miss Smithies and Mrs Bowers were overjoyed at their accomplishment and we all wish Ruby good luck as she will now compete in the regional competition at Deeside College.
Year 11 Leavers Awards Evening
On Tuesday this week, we held a celebration evening for our former Year 11 students. During the evening students received their GCSE certificates and a number of other additional prizes were awarded to nominated students, these included form prizes, 100% attendance and the Headteachers Award.
There was a fantastic turnout and we hope that our leavers all had an enjoyable evening. The highlight of the evening was to hear how quickly our students have settled into their college courses and I wish them all the best for their future career paths.
Following advice and guidance from the Department for Education, we have reviewed our emergency plans in school and practicing our lockdown procedures next week. In the unlikely event we should need to enforce this protocol it is important that staff and students are aware of how to keep themselves safe. This is intended purely as a precautionary measure and not to worry or panic our students. Please contact the school if you have any concerns or worries.

Mrs Ward’s creative work of the week is awarded to Katie Jones in Year 10 for her amazing ‘Colours in Nature ideas book’. Katie has spent over a month on her project work for her homework and developed her ideas for her final piece in depth. Katie is looking at the theme of tropical fish and has photographed fish in an aquarium to enhance her observational drawings.
Katie has also explored the artist Terry Gilecki’s work for ideas and said ”I think my Terry Gilecki piece has been successful. I also like my spider diagram page and the way I have presented my photo page”. Well done Katy I cannot wait to see your final piece.
Year 10 students were asked to do some homework on a landscape project.
These are the fantastic tonal drawings of trees created by Emily Walsh, Chloe Winder Liza Pocket and Leah Sutton. Well done girls, Mrs McAlister was very impressed.
Drama club and Year 9 GCSE students have been rehearsing scenes from ‘Our Day Out’ by Willy Russell to perform in this years’ Christmas Showcase. Invites will be going out to parents and the public in the next few weeks.
Musicians and singers with Mr Winstanley and Dancers with Miss Cregg have also been practicing their performances for the Showcase and are excited to end this term with a celebration of their talent! We look forward to seeing you there!

Year 7/8 Girls Football
Year 7 and 8 girls played in a football tournament at GOALS in Netherton last week, although slightly anxious about their prospects of competing with other schools, there were 6 matches, giving the girls the opportunity to show their skills.
Once the matches started all trace of nerves vanished as they began to pass and move the ball around the pitch with skill and accuracy. The motivation of £75 prize money possibly spurred the girls on to dominate the opposition in every match.
The team won all 6 games, which is a fantastic achievement and they deserved the £75 prize to spend on kit for the team. Congratulations to all the girls.
The year 7 basketball team have had a tremendous start to the season winning the recent Southport and Formby schools competition at Formby High. Attendance at extra-curricular has been superb for this year and the hardest job for Mr Walsh was picking just 7 boys to be involved. All students who attend extra-curricular will have a chance to represent their school in competitive fixtures.
The students played with great skill and determination beating Range 8-4, Meols Cop High 12-0, Formby High 12-2 and a very strong Birkdale High 10-4 in the final. Well done to all the boys involved.
Tuesday 28th November – Boys Year 8 Basketball Tournament at Birkdale High
Wednesday 29th November – KS4 Boys Badminton Tournament at home
Wednesday 29th November – Year 7 National Cup Football at Bury Grammar School
Friday 1st December – Girls Year 7/8 Football Tournament at Goals Netherton High
