Southport Learning Partnership ‘Toe to Toe Campaign’
Yesterday, as part of the Southport Learning Partnership we took part in the ‘Toe to Toe Campaign’ which involved students in all Southport schools. Thank you to those that took part and overall we collected four bags worth of shoes, which will be distributed to one of 35 countries around the world.
Stanley High School Awards Evening
On Tuesday 18th July we held our awards evening for students in Year 7 to 10. The evening was a fantastic success and the hall was packed to capacity with students, parents and carers, guests and governors. I was extremely proud of all of the students who were awarded and it was wonderful to see them on the stage collecting their awards. A huge thanks to Michelle Dow for being our Guest speaker and she also commented on what a fantastic evening it had been. I must also thank all the staff who attended on the night and in particular those that worked hard to ensure the evening went smoothly and also the Leadership Team and Year Leaders who announced the awards and ensured that the students came onto the stage in the correct order. I am already looking forward to the Year 11 Awards Evening in November.
This week students have also had their achievement assemblies. Prizes were awarded for 100% attendance, 100% punctuality and zero behaviour points. Students were praised for their successes throughout the year and it was lovely seeing so many students being recognised for their efforts.
Finally, I would like to wish you all a good summer break, I am sure we will all come back in September feeling refreshed and ready to start the new term. I would also like to say thank you for the kind welcome I have been given since I started in November, I truly believe Stanley High School is a good school and together we will make it great.
Mr N Moore
Start of term dates
Students will be expected back in school on Tuesday 5th September, Year 7 students are to arrive for registration at 8.40am and Year 8-11 students should arrive at 11.15am for Period 3 and go to their form room.
Student Dress Code 2017-18
There will be one change to the student dress code from September, with a new school tie being introduced. All students will be given a brand new Stanley High tie on the first day of term. It will be their responsibility to look after the tie and if lost or defaced, replacements can be purchased from the school at £5 each. Please send students into school with their existing tie and it will be replaced with a new tie on the first day of term.
Mrs Ward would like to thank the Year 8 students who have handed in their Gaudi towers this week. Students have spent a lot of their own time producing these pieces of work.
The towers have been inspired by looking at Antonio Gaudis work. Students who did not have time to complete their towers in class, asked if they could complete them at home. It is amazing to see the quality and dedication the students have given, well done Year 8.
Duke of Edinburgh
Congratulations to our D of E students this year. On Tuesday night they did their presentations, which took the form of, mainly PowerPoint Presentations, outlining their experiences and focusing on a topic of study e.g. landscapes, teamwork etc.
The Assessor, who has been doing D of E for thirty years, said they were “amongst the best set of presentations” she has ever seen! As such all have now passed their Expedition side of the Award.
In September we will be onto the eDofE as pupils log their Volunteering, Skill and Physical sections of the Award – then, hopefully, they will have completed their Awards.
The cricket season finished this week and culminated in the Year 9 team reaching the Lancashire Cup Final. After a stunning victory on Friday in the semi-final against St Marys, Stanley were pitched against Parr High School in the final which was played in glorious sunshine at Burnley Cricket Club. Although the boys never gave up this became one game too far and Parr, led by 3 Lancashire players proved to be too strong despite a bold effort with the ball and the bat from Benish Shukla.
During the season the boys have had some outstanding memories meeting some international test players and also had some outstanding results. The challenge for next year is to match the achievements of this but to also help Mr Walsh in the coaching of our keen younger players at Stanley High and the new Year 7s that will be starting in September. Well done on a fantastic year boys.
Over the course of the last week the students at Stanley have been involved in a range of activities for the inter house sports competition. Students at Stanley have represented their house at Tug-of-war and during 2 days of glorious sunshine this week, have represented their houses at track and field activities. The skill, sportsmanship and quality evident during the last week has been a testament to what takes place in the lessons and the attendance at extra-curricular activities. Both staff and students thoroughly enjoyed watching the competition and it was nice to see the students pride in representing their house.
The results after the tug-of-war and track and field events are as follows:
1st Place: Grey Thompson
2nd Place: Holmes
3rd Place: Coe
4th place: Redgrave
Finally in the last bulletin of the year the PE department would like to thank all of the students at Stanley High for their positive approach to lessons and their superb attitude when they have represented Stanley High in either a leadership capacity or representation of one of their school teams.
