Headteacher’s update

On Thursday we conducted a preventative lockdown around the school site. This is part of our serious emergency plan and is to ensure that our procedures are understood by all members of the school community. The attitude and behaviour of our students was impeccable.

Churchtown Christmas Fair

This evening our Year 9 Enterprise students will be selling a range of festive items at the fair from 4pm to 8pm. We also have a number of students who will be performing on the evening at 7.30pm. I am sure this promises to be a lovely evening for the whole community.

Uniform and Equipment

During this term I have regularly received extremely positive comments about the appearance of our students from visitors to the school and members of the public. Please can parents/carers encourage students to maintain these high standards and also ensure students are arriving at school with the correct equipment for their learning in lessons.

Year 11 Mock Examinations

Year 11 Mock exams commence on Monday 27th November, please see below the timetable, which is also available on the school website.

Visit to Krakow 2018

Miss Van-Eker is holding an information evening at school on Tuesday 5th December from 6-7pm for parents of students who are attending the visit to Krakow in February.

Christmas Jumper Day – Friday 15th December 2017

On Friday 15th December we will hold another Christmas Jumper Day. Students will be allowed to wear a festive jumper in exchange for a donation to charity. We suggest a minimum of a £1 donation but all donations will be appreciated. All monies raised will be split between the Save the Children charity and the charity supported by our in school Interact Rotary Club.

Charity Christmas Fair

On Friday 15th December from 2-6pm we will be holding a Charity Christmas Fair. This is part of an enterprise project by our Year 9 students which will include a number of stalls selling various items ranging from personalised Christmas decorations to reindeer models. Hot chocolate and cookies and winter warmer soup will also be available to keep you warm. We will also have a tombola stall and if you are able to send in a raffle prize it will be greatly appreciated.

We have some fantastic entertainment taking place, including some of our local primary school students who will be coming to sing some festive tunes as well as our amazing dancers and outstanding musicians and singers as well as some of Mr Hooton’s jugglers and possibly even a visit from a very special person! We look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible.

Christmas Dinner

The canteen will be serving a traditional Christmas Roast Dinner and Pudding on Wednesday 13th December for a cost of £2.20.

Year 7 Christmas Community Action

Year 7 will be supporting the Southport Foodbank for their Community Action this term. Each form has been allocated four items from the Christmas meal list supplied by the Foodbank and we are asking for each student to bring in one item from their list if possible, this is obviously on a donation basis.

Thank you in advance for your continuing support.

Drama club and Year 9 GCSE students have been rehearsing scenes from ‘Our Day Out’ by Willy Russell to perform in this years’ Christmas Showcase. They are busily learning scripts, organising costumes and controlling their nerves before the performance on Monday 18th December in the school hall at 1pm. Invites will be going out to parents and the public in the next few weeks.

Musicians and singers with Mr Winstanley and dancers with Miss Cregg have also been practicing their performances for the Showcase and are excited to end this term with a celebration of their talent! We look forward to seeing you there!

Mrs Ward’s creative work of the week is awarded to Ellen and Hollie in Year 9 for their exciting and informative Literacy Booster lesson based on verbs.

Ellen and Hollie spent a few lunchtimes developing ideas; they produced a PowerPoint to deliver their lesson and had a script to keep them focused, making sure we were all learning during the lesson. The students also produced posters and handouts. Well done ladies you are our future leaders.

Spelling and Grammar Focus

Each fortnight during form time there will a specific spelling and grammar focus for the students. This information is also available online for parents/carers and students should they wish to work on it at home. Please follow the link below to see the fortnightly focus for this half term.

Girls Badminton

The KS3 team were involved in the Centre Parcs Badminton competition which was hosted at Stanley High. The event always provides a high class field and the badminton on show was top class. The girls performed fantastically, finishing 3rd in the A team competition with the B team winning their competition. Well done to all girls involved.

Boys Badminton

Once again Stanley High was host to the North Sefton Centre Parcs Badminton championships. With the fantastic extra curriculum clubs on offer, Stanley were able to field 3 teams into this event. All the boys raised their standard and there were some outstanding individual and doubles play throughout the competition. Stanley finished in 2nd place losing only to a very strong Birkdale team.

Year 8 BasketballStanley entered two Year 8 teams in the recent Southport and Formby Basketball competition at Birkdale High School. Both teams started strongly, winning both fixtures against Formby A but it was the Stanley A team who excelled; winning a further 2 fixtures including an excellent performance against Birkdale High B team, which saw a resounding 18-4 victory. Stanley A eventually finished 3rd in the competition but show promising signs for the basketball season ahead.

Football National Cup

Football TeamAt present, the last remaining survivors are the Year 7 and Year 10 teams. Year 10 have a tough fixture in the last 32 against Cannon Slade, Bolton. Year 7 progressed to the last 32 of the cup with a 7-4 victory against Bury Grammar. Special mention goes to Ollie Benford and Sam Langford who scored 3 goals each. The Year 7 team now play Oldham Hulme Grammar school before Christmas.

Well done to all the boys who have played in all of the football fixtures this year, particularly Year 7 where nearly all of the students have had the chance to represent the school in a competitive fixture.
