Track and Field
Year 7 took part in a North Sefton trial with Birkdale High, students performed in track events with some exceptional individual performances. Most noticeably in 1500m with Adam Oakley running 5 minutes 25 seconds gaining first place and Josh Greaves who had exceptional performances in both 200m and 400m with a time of 1.12:00 seconds.

year 9 rugby team

Year 9 achieved more success in the Merseyside Emerging Schools 7 a side series of tournaments by returning home unbeaten having played four intense physical games last night.

Our first opponents were St Peter and Paul from Widnes and despite initially going behind we managed to get back into the game with some direct running and support play to end up winners by 3 tries to 2.

The second game was also against St Peter and Paul although their second string team which gave us an opportunity to give some players newly selected the chance to play and test themselves.  All players rose to the challenge and we won, scoring 4 tries to the opponents 2.

Our third game was against St Francis Xavier from South Liverpool.  Some players were rested in preparation for the final game which we anticipated would be the hardest game so it was pleasing to see the team still perform well and end up winners by 5 tries to 3. Special mention to Jack Pownall here scoring two individual tries on his debut, running straight through the opposition nearly the whole length of the pitch.

Our final opponents were Birkdale and being local rivals added to the intensity of the game.  A couple of early tries for Birkdale had us on the back foot but we managed to stage a fight back to draw level with tries from Tom Crompton and Jair Silva.  A strong run down the right wing allowed Jair to score another to take the lead with just a few minutes remaining.  The pressure during the final minutes was high with many tackles made but in what was the final play, Birkdale just managed to draw level before the whistle went.

An enjoyable afternoon of Rugby played with enthusiasm and respect for our opponents left us looking forward to the final tournament of the season in a few weeks.  The squad of players is getting larger as well as developing as a team which can only bode well for next season.
