art exhibition

We will be holding an Art and Technology exhibition in our new Library on Thursday 14th June from 4pm to 6pm.

Students will be displaying their GCSE work for parents and carers to view alongside students who are currently studying Design and Technology subjects.

As with previous years, I am sure it will be a fantastic.

GCSE Examination Arrangements

GCSE Examinations continue and I would like to remind all Year 11 students that should they have any concerns or questions, to ensure they speak about them to the appropriate member of staff. I have been delighted with the excellent attitude and preparation of our Year 11 students as they start their exams.

Year 11 students can continue to meet in the canteen from 8am on the days of their exams, where breakfast and refreshments will be provided for those sitting a morning exam. Students must be in school by 8.30am when sitting morning exams.

If students do not have an exam, they should arrive in school by 8.50am and will be registered in their form room.

Cycling to school

To ensure the safety of all of our students who travel to school on bikes, we would like to remind students that they must dismount on Fleetwood Road and walk with their bikes to the bike shed. Students have been very sensible recently in crossing the main roads, and I would encourage them to continue to be mindful of the busy roads during the start and end of the school day. Please also ensure your child wears the correct safety equipment.

Please also ensure that they have a secure lock to ensure the safety of their bike, and following a number of thefts from the front of school we advise that students use the bike sheds provided which is locked from 8.40am to 3pm and not to leave their bike at the front of school.

If you child comes to school on a bike please share the following resources with them on bike safety. http://think.direct.gov.uk/cycling.html

PE

Football

Stanley hosted the Year 9 EFC football tournament this week, with the winners progressing to the Finch Farm finals. We won the first 2 games, but in the last game and needing a win against Range High we only managed a draw, and it was Range High who proved victorious. Well done to all the boys involved, there were some excellent individual performances.

Tennis

Year 7 and 8 boys took part in the North Sefton tennis competition at North Meols Tennis Centre. In an event where the boys were playing against club players in both age groups, the Year 7 students showed great character and finished second whilst the Year 8 students went one better and won. Well done to all the boys involved.

Athletics

Girl's Athletics team

Year 7, 8, 9 and 10 girls took part in the North Sefton Athletics championships at Litherland Sports Park on Thursday. The girls took part in all track and field events and came a creditable 3rd overall. Although there were fantastic team performances, special mention must go to Zara who won both the shot and discus in the Year 9 competition. Well done to all the girls involved; the next athletics event will be 25th June at Robin Park where they will take part in Division 1 Sefton Athletics.

Cricket

The draw for the next round of the Lancashire Plate competition has thrown up some interesting and difficult ties. Our Year 10’s will play Bishop Rawstone of Croston before the 16th June. Our Year 7 & 8’s have away matches at Archbishop Temple and Liverpool College respectively. Good luck to all boys involved.

Sports Leaders

Stanley’s Sports Leaders were involved in organising a Footgolf competition for local primary schools. Ten Year 9 students organised and delivered the competition and 50 Year 3 & 4 students took part. The students had a fantastic afternoon and the Sports Leaders were exceptional throughout.
