Headteacher’s update

Year 7 Admissions

On Thursday we received our student allocations for September 2018. I am delighted to inform parents and carers that over 130 students have chosen Stanley High for next year and this demonstrates a real confidence in our school from the local community.

We are hoping the refurbishment works will be completed next week and are planning to open our brand new Library after Easter.

We are starting to stock the shelves and would be very grateful for any donations of books, which are in good condition. If you have any children’s/young adult books that perhaps are not going to be read again, then we would be very happy to take them. We are also planning on potentially offering community Parent and Toddler mornings, so again, if you have any books suitable for younger children that you may wish to donate please send them in to school for the attention of Miss G Navin or the English department. Any books that are not used within the library will be donated to charity.

Thank you to those who have already made donations. The English staff are steadily sorting through them and this is bringing renewed excitement for the grand opening in April!

Severe Weather

A big thank you to all parents and carers who have ensure their children have continued to get to school this week, despite the freezing conditions. Hopefully spring will be around the corner!

Year 8 Parents Evening

Yesterday we held the Year 8 parents evening and I am pleased to say the turnout was again fantastic and I hope that parents/carers found the evening to be a positive and informative event. Those parents who were unable to attend can contact the Form Tutor or Year Leader to arrange a more suitable time if required.

Praise Week

This week has seen our second praise week with the topic being ‘Above and Beyond’. As previously staff were able to nominate students who they felt had gone above and beyond what would be normal practice. We hope that students have excelled and we can top the totals from last term. We will acknowledge each student with a certificate and two names will be chosen to receive a voucher worth £10.

School Meal Price Increase

Please note that Sefton Catering have informed us that on 1st April 2018 the price of a set school meal will increase from £2.20 to £2.30.

Mr N Moore

Sport Relief

During the week of 19th – 23rd March we will be holding a number of sporting activities to raise money for Sport Relief.

Students will be taking part in a variety of activities during both lunchtimes and PE lesson time that will include a skip challenge, speed stacking and a dance mat challenge culminating in a sports clothes mufti on Friday 23rd.

We hope that as many students as possible can join in and donate a small amount as this is, as always, a very worthy fundraiser. Please see members of the PE department for further information.

Primary Days

This week in Science we have had the privilege of having several primary schools visit the Science department. These students have been investigating and carrying out a range of different practicals with each student who took part showing great enthusiasm and excellent practical skills. We look forward to having more primaries take part in these visits throughout the year.

Mrs Ward’s Creative work of the week goes to Olivia Bailey in Year 9 for her wonderful Art homework project based on the artists Abbey Diamond and Luis Martin.

Olivia’s paintings of the artist’s work are exquisite. Olivia explains ‘in my opinion the work is very impressive because the artists have a unique way of painting birds. I like the variety of different colours they use’. Well done Olivia.

Each fortnight during form time there will a specific spelling and grammar focus for the students. This information is also available online for parents/carers and students should they wish to work on it at home. Please follow the link below to see the fortnightly focus for this half term.

Sports Leaders

This week Year 9 Sports Leaders have been leading across a range of activities for some of our Primary Schools. This week Year 4 students from Linaker Primary, Kew Woods Primary, Bishop David Sheppard Primary, Crossens Primary and Larkfield Primary have been taking part in PE, Science, Music, French, History and Technology. As always our leaders were a credit to the school and were fantastic role models for Stanley High. We have also had some fantastic feedback regarding the content of the day and the fantastic support the leaders and the teaching staff gave to the students.

Girls Football

Year 9 and 10 girls recently took part in a Sefton Schools Football Tournament in Liverpool. The girls were successful against teams from Maricourt High, Range High and Savio High before losing in the final. As the girls came runners up they won £50 which will go towards a new football kit. With this and the £75 the Year 7/8 football team won for winning their tournament before Christmas, it means that the girls are well on the way to securing a new football kit!

Boys Football

Despite the awful conditions this week the Year 7 and 8 teams played fixtures against Christ the King High. The Year 8 team, with many new students playing for the first time, tried hard but lost to a strong CTK team 7 -2. However better news for our Year 7 team who recovered from going 2 goals down to win a thrilling match 5 -2 to build on the fabulous season so far. Well done to all the students who braved the awful conditions this week.

Girls Netball

The North Sefton Girls Netball Competition regretfully had to be cancelled this week due to the weather, but has been rearranged for Tuesday 6th March.

Upcoming fixtures

  • Monday 5th – Year 7 Football away to Formby High
  • Tuesday 6th – Year 7and 8 Netball Tournament at Formby High
