Headteacher’s update

The Duke of Edinburgh Presentation Evening

On Thursday 28th March, at the Southport Theatre and Convention Centre, we had the pleasure of attending this event in what proved to be an outstanding advert for all that is best about Stanley High School.

Schools and Youth Organisations from across Sefton were in attendance, as was the Mayor of Sefton, the Lord Lieutenant of Merseyside and the High Sheriff of Merseyside who all spoke warmly about the success the students had demonstrated by attaining their various Awards.

Of all the participating centres, Stanley High had the most students achieve a Bronze Certificate, and the most students attend the event. They represented the school with great credit, smart appearance and excellent behaviour.

Well done to all the students who received Bronze or Silver badges that evening and well done, too, to Elena (Year 11) and Lizzie (Year 10) who acted as comperes throughout the evening. They spoke confidently and clearly as they read out the Award winners’ names and introduced the guest speakers, to an audience of around one thousand students and supporters.

May I also take this opportunity to praise the new Year 9 cohort who began their DofE on Wednesday, by taking part in a one day practice walk around Chipping. The students were very enthusiastic and well-behaved and this augurs well as we head towards their Expedition season after Easter. They even found the funny side of having to cross a field, minutes after the farmer had completed his muck – spreading!!

Southport College Discovery Day

Mrs Regan and Mrs Pactor took a number of Year 10 students to Southport College on Friday 29th March to attend a Discovery Day.

The students had the opportunity to take part in various workshops including Machining, Welding and Fabrication Overview, Introduction to Engineering Drawing, Model Building Masterclass, Construction Survey Tutorial and an Introduction to Computer Aided Design.

The students were a credit to the school. They really enjoyed the taster day and were told by one of the college tutors, “they were the most creative group they’d had that day.”

Art

Mrs Ward’s creative work of the week goes to William in Year 10 for his painting ‘Eye’. The Atkinson Art Gallery in Southport has chosen William’s painting for an Art Exhibition.

The Gallery said that they had received a high number of entries from students across Sefton and William’s painting has been selected as a winner in the Student Art Competition for the Animal Section.

The judges were very impressed with the level of skill and creativity that William’s work showed. Well done William.

We have a target of 95% attendance and work hard every day to beat this. The whole school attendance for week ending 29th March 2019 was 95.3%.
