Following on from the Interact Club visit to Derian House, I am pleased to be able to continue fundraising by selling Christmas ‘Flumpets’ on their behalf in school. The Interact students will be selling them around school during the next few weeks.
Year 11 Mock Exams
Year 11 students continue with their Mock Exams next week and I must congratulate them on their behaviour so far, they have been impeccably behaved and I hope will continue to do so. The exam timetable is available on the school website at the following link. If students have any question regarding the upcoming exams, please advise them to speak to the subject teacher or Mrs Rae.
We will be having our Christmas Lunch in the canteen on Wednesday 12th December. It will be a traditional lunch with dessert for the price of £2.30.
This week sees the end of the ‘Excellent Homework’ praise weeks. The students nominated will all receive a certificate as recognition and two students will be picked at random to receive a £10 gift voucher. I am always pleased with the number of students who receive nominations during these weeks and I am sure that this time will be no exception.
As you will no doubt be aware, the fayre will be taking place in Churchtown village on Friday 7th December, and as last year we will have a stall and a Dance display taking place. We would be delighted to see parents/carers supporting us at the event as well as enjoying the local festivities that all the other stallholders will be demonstrating.
Mr N Moore
Year 7 students are holding a Christmas appeal in aid of the Foodbank. Please could you send donations into school with your child for them to leave with their form tutor.
As we have done previously, some Year 7 students will have the opportunity to visit the foodbank to see how the allocation of donated food is stored and packed ready to be given out to those in need.
Thank you in advance for your support. Should you wish to donate and if you do not have a student in Year 7, please ask your child to give the donation to Mrs Urquhart.
Students are currently rehearsing for the Christmas Showcase on Tuesday 18th December. This year we have nearly 40 students involved in Drama, Dance and Music, creating a Performing Arts Showcase for parents/carers, grandparents and the local community. The students have been fantastic in rehearsal and are all excited for the final show!
We are holding our Christmas Fayre on Wednesday 12th December from 2pm to 6pm. There will be a number of stalls and entertainment throughout and some of our Year 9 students will be raising money for charity through the enterprise project as they did last year.
We would be delighted if you could send any items into school for the tombola stall as this was a big fundraiser last year, and we would love to match or beat the total that was raised. Students in Year 9 will choose their individual charities that will benefit from the enrichment programme and all other funds raised will go into school funds.
Word of the week
As you may know, we have a word of the week that we are encouraging students to use and this is being displayed in classrooms and around school. The word for this week was ‘provoke’ and we hope that students had plenty of opportunities to use this. The word for week commencing 3rd December will be ‘decipher ’.
Maths and English Challenge
There were no winners of the English Challenge from the last fortnight and the winner of the Maths Challenge was Evie in Year 7; well done Evie.
The next challenge can be found on the link below, students have until Thursday lunch time to enter. Answers for all the challenges can also be found at the link. https://stanleyhigh.co.uk/fortnightly-challenges/
Mrs Ward’s creative work of the week is awarded to Ava Dacre and her amazing dragon painting. This painting is now being displayed in Mr Moore’s office.
Ava also took part in the primary day last week when Banks Methodist Primary visited the Art department; this was due to Ava inspiring the students whilst on her work experience visit in the summer term. Ava had a small exhibition of her work at the school and spoke to the students about her work. Well done Ava you are going to make a great Art Teacher one day.
It was the turn of the Year 8 Basketball team to attend the Sefton Basketball championship at Edge Hill on Wednesday this week. We had victories against teams from Maricourt, Sacred Heart, Chesterfield, Christ the King and Range before losing to the eventual winners Meols Cop in a thrilling game. Alongside our Year 7s for our Year 8s to be the 2nd best basketball team in Sefton it is a fantastic accolade for both teams and is testament to the hard work the boys have put in and the extra-curricular sessions that are on offer to them.
GCSE Badminton Moderation
Badminton has always been a popular sport at Stanley due to the extra-curricular sessions that run every Friday. Recently our students have taken part in KS3 and KS4 Sefton competitions and a number of our Year 11 students took part in a GCSE practical moderation on Monday with other schools from Southport. The standard played was excellent and this bodes well for their practical GCSE moderation on 3rd December. Year 11 students will cover; Netball, Football, Badminton and Handball on the 3rd December, so that marks can be standardised between Mr Walsh and Mr Lock. Good luck to all our students involved.
- Monday 3rd – Year 11 GCSE Practical Mock Moderation
