Headteacher’s update

Year 11 School Prom

Once more the Year 11 students had a fantastic evening at their Prom as they bid farewell to their peers, staff and the school. They followed this up with their leaving assembly the following morning with a farewell video, a few laughs, tears and funny stories; everyone who attended had a great morning.

I wish them well in their future and look forward to seeing them on Thursday 23rd August for exam results day. Students can arrive at school for 10am.

Wally Cain Dance Festival

Yet again our students did themselves and the school proud as they took part in the annual Wally Cain Dance Festival on Friday evening at the Southport Convention Centre.

The overall theme was ‘Historical or Cultural Events’ and we chose the theme of The French Revolution. All students performed at an outstanding standard, well done to all involved for their hard work and dedication, and thank you to Miss Cregg for all the hard work and dedication given to the students practice sessions.

New Intake day

On Wednesday this week, we welcomed our new students for September 2018 who will be starting with us in Year 7. The students had a fun filled busy day, where they met their peers, learnt who their Year Leader and Form Tutor will be and hopefully when they start with us in September they will feel familiar with their new environment.

New Intake evening

On Monday 2nd July at 6pm we will welcome both students and parents to school to introduce them to high school and to pass on some important information as their child embarks on their high school journey, which we hope will prepare them for their start in September.

Year 10 Work Experience

Work experience took place this week for Year 10 students and I hope that they enjoyed an insight into the world of work and found it to be a challenging and thought-provoking week. Thank you to all the staff who visited the students throughout the week, and to Miss Kent who co-ordinated the visits with SEBP, and also to Mr Hutchings and Mrs Fraser-Orr who helped with the queries and planning the staff visits this week.

Montgenevre Ski Trip 2019

The students attending the ski trip are excitedly organising themselves for the visit. However, one of the group has unfortunately had to withdraw from the trip, so a place has become available. If your child would like to go, please contact Mr Lock for further information.

Upcoming Year 10 Key Dates

  • Monday 2nd July – Southport College taster day
  • Wednesday 4th July – Enrichment day

Duke of Edinburgh Expedition

“The young people did really well. They did you and the school proud” were the summative words of the Assessor on last weekend’s Qualifying DofE Expedition.
Subject to completing their presentation at the end of this term and fulfilling the requirements in the other three categories; Physical, Skill and Volunteering, all 33 students who took part should now go on to pass their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award.

In almost perfect weather conditions – albeit one or two of the group had trouble with sunburn! – the students acquitted themselves well to the tasks of navigating, pitching tents and cooking on trangias.

There was a positive feeling throughout the weekend and spirits were generally high, especially playing frisbee on Friday evening before going to bed.

Well done to all those who took part and, once again, a big thank you to staff who have given up their weekends to help out.

Mrs Ward’s creative work of the week is awarded to Erin Barton Constable in Year 9 for her amazing detailed butterfly wing samples.

These are to help with her final A3 painting. Well done Erin keep up the good work.

Each fortnight during form time there will a specific spelling and grammar focus for the students. This information is also available online for parents/carers and students should they wish to work on it at home. Please follow the link below to see the fortnightly focus for this half term.

Miss Cassidy has been working closely with Mr Proffitt to put together a 3 year Drama DVD for the Year 11 Drama students. This will contain photos and recordings of trips, workshops, classwork and performances over the 3 years including their two final GCSE performances in Year 11.

It is being created this term by Mr Proffitt who has worked closely with the group in technical support for lighting and sound over the 3 years.

Miss Cassidy is extremely proud of what this group has achieved during their course and hopes that you as parents enjoy viewing their journey with them.

Year 10 Drama students went to see the original play ‘Strings’ at the Amanda Roocroft Theatre at Runshaw College on Wednesday 13th June. The actors were students who are training on the Acting pathway of the Professional Performance Programme; this was their final show before they move on to drama school and university.

As always the performance was fantastic and the students thoroughly enjoyed it, giving them plenty of ideas to practice their written exam to analyse live theatre.

This week our Year 7, 8, 9 and 10 students took part in the Sefton Division 1 Athletics competition at Robin Park, Wigan. On an extremely hot day there were some outstanding team and individual performances.

Sam from Year 7 broke another school record in the 800m and special mention has to go to our Year 10 students who came back from work experience to represent the school. Congratulations to Year 10 boys who for 4 years on the run have remained division 1 champions; you truly are an outstanding team and your efforts this year have been massively appreciated.

Well done to all the students who took part in the day and particularly well done to the girls for remaining in division 1 despite us being the smallest school.

Our Year 10 team reached the quarter-final of the Lancashire Cup with a thrilling victory over Bishop Rawstorne at Croston Cricket Club. The team looked in trouble at one stage but an excellent 35 not out by Bellis brought Stanley’s total up to a respectable 93 runs.

In what proved to be a thrilling game Stanley were able to bowl out the opposition for 78 therefore winning by 15 runs. Our next game will be against Our Lady’s Catholic High School in Fullwood Preston, which should be another fantastic game.

Sports Leaders

Stanley Sports Leaders were involved in a Primary competition at North Meols Tennis Centre this week. Year 7 and 8 students organised, planned and umpired all matches which proved to be a very successful event. Our Year 9 students were also on hand to support St John Crossens Sports day.

Sports Day

This year sports day will take place in the last week of term and will undergo a new format compared to previous years. Students will be involved in a number of different sports in what is sure to be a fabulous sporting extravaganza. Details will be given out in the forthcoming weeks how students can be involved.

We have a target of 95% attendance and work hard every day to beat this. The whole school attendance for week ending 22nd June 2018 was 96.6%.

Congratulations to 10JR for achieveing 99.3% attendance, 8JD, 9MPE and 9EWA for achieving 99.2% attendance and 7EC for achieving 99.1% attendance.
