Headteacher’s update

We held a Year 11 Humanities meeting last night where parents were given advice and guidance on the History, Geography and RE GCSE courses. We hope parent/carers found the evening to be useful and received information which will be beneficial to both students and parent/carers. If you were unable to attend and would like the information, please do not hesitate to contact Miss Van Eker via the school office or enquiries email.

Next week sees the start of the options assemblies for Year 8 students, and the food practical examinations will be taking place week commencing 4th February. Please encourage your child to speak with their Teacher or Form Tutor should they have any questions or concerns in relation to either of these events.

On Wednesday we will be holding our third Enrichment day for students where they will be off timetable. The students will be involved in a variety of activities including PSHE, RE, SHEDS, Enterprise and Year 11 will doing some intensive study in their Option groups.

Word of the week

As you may know, we have a word of the week that we encourage students to use during their day to day learning and each week the word will be displayed in classrooms and around school. The word for this week was ‘obligatory’ and we hope that students had plenty of opportunities to use this. The word for week commencing 28th January will be ‘palpable ’.

Maths and English Challenge

The winners from the last challenge was Hannah Blackmore 7JF and Hollie Taylor 7JF, well done to both.

The next challenge can be found on the link below, students have until Thursday lunch time to enter. Answers for all the challenges can also be found at the link. https://stanleyhigh.co.uk/fortnightly-challenges/

Art

Mrs Ward’s creative work of the week goes to Year 7 Technology class for their amazing dinosaur designs. Students were asked to design their own Dinosaur and to create a story that goes with their designs. Students are experiencing how a children’s illustrator would work.

Mrs McAlister’s Year 10 GCSEs Art class produced some outstanding homework this week. They were told to research an Artist of their choice for their coursework project ‘the human condition’. Mrs McAlister is very proud of the outcomes – well done everyone.

Holly in Year 7 has worked really hard on her Technology homework project. Students had to demonstrate their understanding of manga in a written and visual form, I am very proud of Holly’s A3 booklet it is a great achievement – well done .

Drama

Miss Cassidy’s GCSE Drama Year 10 and 11 students have been given the opportunity to go to The Liverpool Playhouse to view ‘Girl on a Train’ on Thursday 14th March. This promises to be a fantastic performance that students can write about in their final GCSE exam. Deadline for replies and ticket money is Monday 4th February.

Watch this space for the next theatre opportunity!

PE

Football

Year 7 boys played a 7 a side fixture against Meols Cop High and Christ the King High this week and we had a comprehensive victory with a combined aggregate score from the 2 team of 32-8. Our Year 8 boys played Meols Cop High in an entertaining game and came out 14 to 12 winners. With the dark nights and the poor weather upon us, these games on the 3G have acted as fantastic training in preparation for the Sefton block fixtures which will take place after the February half term.

Cross County

Mr Walsh and Miss Alyson took 54 students from Year 7, 8 and 9 to Merchant Taylors for the 2nd Sefton schools Cross Country race. On what was a bitterly cold day, the enthusiasm from the Stanley students was brilliant. Students who have represented the school before in any sporting activity participated and hopefully will remain interested for the 3rd race which will be hosted by us after half term. Special mention goes to the Year 7 girls team and our best individual runner was Frankie Lewis who finished 5th overall.

Sports LeadersSports Leaders

Our Year 11 Sports Leaders have been helping Miss Alyson with the Year 5 and 6 Primary Futsal competition that was held at Stanley. We had 16 primary schools in attendance and our students were wonderful ambassadors for the school in front of many parents who have attended these competitions. A massive thank you on behalf of the PE department for being such a credit to the school and yourselves.

Primary Curriculum Day

Stanley hosted Year 4 Norwood and Kew Woods Primaries this week. The students had a taster of four subjects including PE, Technology, History and Spanish. A number of curriculum leaders helped Mr Walsh and Miss Alyson throughout the day and the feedback from both the primary staff and students was that it was a fantastic day. Thank you to all the Stanley students and staff who helped contribute to this wonderful successful day.
