Headteacher’s update

Year 11 College InterviewsThis week we held a number of events for Year 11 Students including two days of interviews for students. Tuesday we held ‘mock’ interviews for students and I have to say that the feedback from everyone was extremely positive, students were a credit to themselves and the school. This led them perfectly into Wednesday where we had Runshaw College in school to hold interviews for the students prospective college places, and again the feedback was fantastic.

I would like to thank the Year 11 Form Tutors; Mr Baxter, Miss J Navin, Mr Roberts, Miss Waltho and Mrs Abram and Year 11 Year Leader Mrs Rae for the fantastic input into preparing the students for what was a very busy and important week.

Year 11 Parents Evening also took place last night and it was fantastic to see such a huge turnout. Should you still have any questions then please contact your child’s form tutor in the first instance via the school office.

We will be holding a Year 11 Humanities meeting on Thursday 24th January from 6pm in the main hall. This will be to give advice and guidance on the History, Geography and RE GCSE courses. We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible in attendance. Students are welcome to join you, as the meeting will include tips and exam techniques, which will be beneficial to both student and parent.

The date for the next round of Year 11 Mock Exams has been moved to week commencing Monday 25th February and Monday 4th March. This is to allow students time to discuss the results from the last round with their teachers and be aware of what, if anything, they need to do to improve in advance of their next mock examination. Should your child have any concerns or worries, please do not hesitate to contact school to discuss these and please encourage them to talk to their Form Tutor, Subject Teacher or Year Leader.

Year 8 Option Assemblies commence week commencing 28th February and Options Evening will be on Thursday 7th February from 6pm to 8pm. Should you have any questions following this, all the information for contacts will be in the Option Booklet.

Parking around the School Site To continue to ensure all are safe travelling to and from school, please can parents and carers refrain from parking or stopping on the yellow zig-zag lines on Fleetwood Road. For your information, please see the link below to the highway codes guidelines for safe parking. https://www.highwaycodeuk.co.uk/parking.html

Word of the week

As you may know, we have a word of the week that we encourage students to use during their day to day learning and each week the word will be displayed in classrooms and around school. The word for this week was ‘microcosm’ and we hope that students had plenty of opportunities to use this. The word for week commencing 21st January will be ‘obligatory’.

Maths and English Challenge

The winners from the last challenge were Hannah Blackmore 7JF and Hollie Taylor 7JF, well done to both. The next challenge can be found on the link below, students have until Thursday lunch time to enter. Answers for all the challenges can also be found at the link. https://stanleyhigh.co.uk/fortnightly-challenges/

SweetsMrs Ward’s creative work of the week goes to Luke in Year 10 for his sweet homework photographs.

They capture the colour and shapes of the sweets well and these photographs will form part of Luke’s GCSE coursework, giving him a great starting point to develop his own ideas based on the theme of sweets.

Luke has also developed his own painting showing lots of colours and textures. Both were also very professionally framed – well done Luke.

Drama club takes place every Wednesday in Room 33 from 3-4pm with Miss Cassidy.

As well as playing lots of different Drama games, this term we will be exploring different Brothers Grimm Fairytales to adapt and use for Year 7 whole class performances which will take place at the end of the summer term.

Please encourage your child to come along and give it a try.

Since we have returned to school, we have been extremely busy with training and fixtures in both Basketball and Football. Year 7 and 8 Basketball recently played against Formby High and both teams had outstanding results. Both have only lost 1 competitive fixture all season in what has been a remarkable sequence of results.

This week Stanley Year 7 won 39 -9 and Year 8 won 40 -10. Well done to all the students who participated in brilliant victories.

This half term we have been training on the 3G and we have arranged games against our local schools for a 7 aside competition. Year 9 started proceedings this week with an entertaining 8 -8 draw against Meols Cop. Next week our Year 7 and 8 teams play Meols Cop and Christ the King.

Cross Country

On the 23rd of January we will be taking our Year 7, 8 and 9 students to the second Sefton Cross Country race at Merchant Taylors. In what will be no doubt be a tough course our students will look to build upon the outstanding team and individual success we had in the last race at Birkdale Common. If you are interested in representing the school you will need to see a member of the PE department.

Sports Leaders

This half term we have many sports leadership opportunities with our local primaries. Mrs Alyson our new Schools Games Organiser will be hosting competitions in Futsal, Gymnastics and Sportshall Athletics. If you are interested in helping out then you need to see Mr Walsh and Mrs Alyson.
