Year 11 Leavers Prom
Mrs Rae and I have finalised the arrangements for this year’s leavers Prom at the Southport Convention Centre on Thursday 21st June, with arrival from 6.30pm, Students will need to be at the venue by 7pm. I am sure this will be a wonderful evening where staff and students can celebrate their time at Stanley High School.
Year 11 Leavers Assembly
This will take place on Friday 22nd June at 11.30am in the main school hall. Students do not need to wear school uniform and will be in school for up to an hour.
Please can students return any textbooks or revision materials to school and if parents wish to donate any unwanted school uniform please can this be brought in to the school office, in particular school ties.
Year 10 College Visits
Next week is a busy week for Year 10 students, with college visits on both Tuesday and Wednesday. We hope that they are able to get an insight into college life and what courses are available as they move towards their final year at Stanley High.
Year 9 Apprentice visit
Year 9 students will attend an Apprenticeship fair in Liverpool on Monday 18th June which will give them an insight into what will be available for them as they move into Year 10 and on to Year 11 and beyond.
Art and Technology Exhibition
This week we held the Year 11 Art and Technology exhibition in the new Library. The exhibition also had a display of some Year 7 ‘Bug Hotels’ in the front entrance which were provided by Mr Frasers Year 7 Technology class. The exhibition was also accompanied by music provided by Mr Winstanley’s Year 11 Music students.
Mr Clarke’s magnificent 3D pieces were the perfect display spaces for Mrs McAlister and Mrs Ward’s smaller paintings. Graphic design pieces look extremely professional from Miss Smithies students.
It was a fantastic evening showcasing the exceptional work our students have created.
Everyone who attended were amazed at the talent on display.

Students in Year 9 have been given an exciting opportunity to win a week sailing the English Channel in a Catamaran during the summer holidays. Merseyside Police who are running the competition, are offering this unique opportunity to five Southport students. To be in with a chance of winning, students were asked to use their ideas about how to tackle anti-social behaviour, bike theft or beach safety in the Southport area and to present them in the form of a PowerPoint, poster or collage.
Mrs Lee has been really impressed with the quality of entries and is very glad that she is not the one who has to choose the eventual winner(s)!
Wednesday 4th July is our final enrichment day of the school year and Mrs Urquhart and Miss Cregg would like to give Year 7 and 8 students the opportunity to take part in an off-site activity at Oxygen Free jumping, Manchester.
Oxygen Freejumping is Manchester’s favourite trampoline park which has been open since June 2016. It has 150 interconnected trampolines, a mega airbag to practice moves, performance trampolines to gain some serious airtime, dodgeball courts to challenge friends, reaction walls to test speed, and lots more activities to improve bouncing!
The latest addition to the park is the Bear Grylls Obstacle Course, 3 floors of challenging obstacles, Cargo nets, balance beams, monkey bars & much more. It’s got everything to prepare for an obstacle race or simply to train like Bear!
All students have been given a letter with the details and they are asked to return their payment of £23 by Friday 22nd June.
Each fortnight during form time there will a specific spelling and grammar focus for the students. This information is also available online for parents/carers and students should they wish to work on it at home. Please follow the link below to see the fortnightly focus for this half term.
On Tuesday of this week, Nicholas Rimmer from Year 8, sat the Junior Maths Kangaroo Paper, which is an extension paper organised by Leeds University for those students who excelled in the recent UKMT Maths Challenge. Well done to Nick for qualifying for this event and we hope he does well.
This week Stanley High hosted the North Sefton Rounders tournament for Years 7, 8, 9 and 10 students. There were consistent performances for all of our teams with victories for all year groups. Our stand out performances were our Year 7 team who finished second out of the 6 schools. Well done to all the girls involved.
There has been plenty of extra-curricular with a big focus on the field events this week. Year 7, 8, 9 and 10 boys travelled to Litherland Sports Park to take part in the North Sefton Athletics Championships. As always there were outstanding individual performances, with plenty of long standing school records broken on the day. Special mention has to go to Year 10 who had 5 individual winners on the day, plus the team relay who were winners in their year group. The next big athletics event for students will be on the 25th June when they will take part in the Division 1 Sefton Athletics at Robin Park.
On Tuesday we were host to a Primary Year 1 and 2 multi skill activities event. There were a number of Year 8 students who ran the multi skill stations for the event. Over 240 students took part throughout the day and the Year 8 Sports Leaders were once again a credit to the school with excellent comments from all teachers.
A group of Year 7 students attended a Watersports afternoon at Waterside Lodge today. The students took part in a number of activities including kayaking, bell boating and kata-canoeing. The afternoon was a great success with all students thoroughly enjoying themselves.

Year 7 have been given a Graphics project to design a blister package for a pair of earphones. They have been learning about biodegradable materials and how to use the vacuum former and develop a blister package. They have spent a number of weeks researching and designing for this final piece.
The final outcomes are quite effective.
We have a target of 95% attendance and work hard every day to beat this. The whole school attendance for week ending 8th June 2018 was 94.1%.
Congratulations to 9MPE for achieving 100% attendance and 9EWA for achieving 99.2%.
