Mrs Urquhart with some Year 7 students had the opportunity of visiting the foodbank to take the donations sent in by yourselves and they also had the opportunity to see how the allocation of donated food is stored and packed ready to be given out to those in need.
Thank you to all those that made a donation, your support is greatly appreciated by both the school and the foodbank.
Christmas Fayre and Christmas Jumper appeal
We held our Christmas Fayre on Wednesday and we were delighted with the fantastic support shown by parents/carers and the local community. There were over 14 stalls and a variety of entertainment from a number of primary schools which was fantastic to see, we also had a number of our own students on the stage which was also great.
The Year 9 students through the Enterprise Project raised money for their chosen charity, as they did last year.
We would like to thank you for the items that were sent into school for the tombola stall as this was a fantastic success, as was the whole event and without your continuing support we would not be able to continue to raise funds in this way. The money raised will be donated to Queenscourt Hospice, Derian House Childrens’ Hospice and the remaining money will go into School Funds.
Thank you to those who donated to the Christmas Jumper appeal or Foodbank in exchange for your child wearing a festive jumper. Save the Children will benefit from the funds raised and I can happily say it was great seeing all the different varieties of jumpers on display, it certainly brought the festive spirit ahead of the fayre.
Over 40 students completed a fantastic dress rehearsal on Tuesday for the winter showcase.
We are all looking forward to the performance next Tuesday 18th at 1.15pm; parents/carers and grandparents are invited to attend from 1pm where refreshments will be served .
End of Term
We will finish at 12.15pm on Friday 21st and I wish you all a peaceful and festive Christmas and Happy
We start back to school at 8.40am on Monday 7th January 2019.

Word of the week
As you may know, we have a word of the week that we are encouraging students to use and this is being displayed in classrooms and around school. The word for this week was ‘loquacious’ and we hope that students had plenty of opportunities to use this. The word for week commencing 17th December will be ‘fumble’.

The winners from this weeks challenge were Hollie 7JF and Callum 8MG well done to both.

Mrs Ward’s creative work of the week is awarded to Year 11 and their confectionary artist research boards. Year 11 have worked really hard on their Art homework boards despite being in the middle of their mock exams.
Well done Year 11.
Year 7 continued their brilliant start to basketball this year when they played Christ the King and were an impressive 44-2 points winners. The boys have taken to this sport fantastically well and their dedication to their training has paid dividend with outstanding performances both in the Sefton League and the Sefton Tournament where they were narrowly beaten in the final. There will be upcoming fixtures against Meols Cop High, Formby High and Range High after the Christmas break.
Year 10 also took part in the Sefton Basketball Championships at Edge Hill University on Wednesday.
After victories against Maricourt High, Birkdale High B and Range High we lost the final 2 games against Birkdale High A and Christ the King High. As all of the boys are taking GCSE PE it is pleasing that excellent performances in this sport can be used for one of their practical activities if they continue with these current high standards.
In one of our final moderations of the half term a number of our Year 11 students played a round robin tournament with students from Meols Cop High and Christ the King High. Not only is this emerging sport becoming ever increasingly popular in core PE, but it is now an activity which is used by a number of our students for their GCSE practical mark. This week’s focus was on tactical and positional play and the students showed a real willingness to learn the key skill required for this sport. A big well done to all the students who have taken part in the practical moderations and all of the students are aware of the three sports that they will need to refine their skills in for the practical mock which will take place in March.
After half term basketball, trampolining, indoor cricket, badminton will continue. Sefton cup fixtures for football will take place with potential futsal competitions run at both Stanley and Formby High. There will also be sport leadership opportunities for students with curriculum days and the opportunity to organise and lead Sportshall Athletics for our local Primary Schools.
We have a target of 95% attendance and work hard every day to beat this. The whole school attendance for week ending 7th December 2018 was 94.7%.
Congratulations to 7GN for achieving 99.2% attendance.
