Next week sees the start of the GCSE Examinations. I would like to wish all Year 11 students the best of luck and to acknowledge them for the hard work they have put in this year, working towards these final weeks. Should any student have any concerns or questions, please encourage them to speak about them to the appropriate member of staff.

The Diana Award Anti-bullying Ambassador Training

On Thursday 15 students from Years 7-10 attended excellent ambassador training at Ridgeway High School. They will have an important role throughout the school in supporting our students. Thank you to Miss Cregg and Mr Walker for accompanying the students.

Kew Woods Primary visit

Primary Visit

The Art Department were very lucky this week to have the pleasure of Kew Woods primary students working with our year 9 Art Leaders.

Grace Sumner led the introduction and explained to students they would be making an abstract painting with a frame designed by our talented Mr Pinder.

Brandon Southwood led the demonstration for students and explained about all the different techniques students could use for their ink backgrounds.

Kew Woods students then worked really hard on their abstract paintings producing excellent work with lots of really interesting intelligent textures and experiments. Thank you folks well done.

Mr N Moore

Faith Jackson in year 8 in the winner of a competition to design a badge for The Royal Air Force Station at Woodvale.

The competition was run to encourage all the local schools in the area to enter. Faith designed a squirrel eating an acorn which caught the judges eye. Well done Faith.

Creative Writing Competition

The English Department are promoting a ‘Creative Writing Competition’ for all students in Years 7 and 8. We wish to encourage as many students as possible to enter and our topic is ‘Ghost Stories.’

Ghost Stories; we have all heard them and we have all been scared by them at one time or another! They can be terribly scary or simply funny, but either way they have been an attention-grabbing form of storytelling for centuries and leave people wondering whether what they have heard is fact or fiction!

Our Ghost Stories competition is open to all our creative writers from Year 7 and 8 and whether you choose to write a spine-chilling tale packed full of suspense, or a ghostly story that is actually quite funny, we would love to read it!

All successful stories will be published in a book alongside other spooky tales from budding storytellers! Once we have enough entries to publish a book we will contact the successful writers.

Spelling and Grammar Focus

Each fortnight during form time there will a specific spelling and grammar focus for the students. This information is also available online for parents/carers and students should they wish to work on it at home. Please follow the link below to see the fortnightly focus for this half term.

Year 7 Cricket

The Year 7 team took part in the Lancashire cup away at Bishop Rawstone. The game was played at Croston Cricket Club and for a number of our students it was their first experience of playing competitive cricket and playing with the hard ball. In the over 15 match we showed great enthusiasm in the field and used 9 different bowlers, so most of the students had the opportunity to bowl. The game was however a victim to the weather as Bishop Rawstone completed their innings scoring 116 for a loss of 16 wickets. The fixture will be rearranged with Stanley looking to bat and try and beat this imposing total. Well done to all the students who took part and cricket training takes place each Tuesday.

Primary visit

Churchtown Primary School visited us today as part of their curriculum days. The Year 4 classes had a fantastic day and were involved in a number of different lessons including English, History, PE and Science. Once again our sports leaders were fantastic ambassadors for the school, ensuring the day went smoothly throughout.

Southport Victoria Mile

Stanley will once again be represented in all age groups in the Victoria Mile. We have won the team competition 4 out of the last 5 years and if you are interested in taking part please see Mr Walsh.

Upcoming fixtures

  • Monday 14th – Boys Year 7 Athletics at Birkdale High
  • Tuesday 15th – Girls Rounder’s vs Range and Meols Cop High
  • Wednesday 16th – Victoria Mile races
  • Wednesday 16th – Cricket training at Fleetwood Hesketh

We have a target of 95% attendance and work hard every day to beat this. The whole school attendance for week ending 4th May 2018 was 93.5%.

attendanceCongratulations to 9MMC for achieving 100% and 10CS for 99.1% attendance.
