It has been an incredibly busy and challenging term and I know that students, staff and governors will be looking forward to a well-deserved rest from Thursday onwards.
Year 11 Information
To help support our Year 11 learners as they approach the final furlong before they sit their GCSE examinations, we will be delivering an extra lesson (Period 6) from Monday to Thursday at 3 – 4pm. Students will still be able to attend revision sessions after 4pm and at weekends as usual. Parents and carers will be invited to a meeting on the 7th January 2016 to discuss the period 6 plan, which will be operational from the 11th January 2016.
School Performance Data
As has previously been mentioned the website is undergoing quite a change.
We will be posting a new school data dashboard which will provide comprehensive, accurate performance data on last year’s examination results.
We will also be posting performance data that considers attainment and progress for all years, when the current data tracking point closes. This data will be on the website from mid to late January 2016. This will help parents monitor whole school performance data across all years.
In the New Year we will be transferring our current website to a new location, which will be accessed at www.stanleyhigh.co.uk.
This is in response to requests to improve communication with parents using smart technology, we will also be making changes to our Parental Portal which will include improved compatibility with tablets and smartphones; therefore parents will not be able to access the Parental Portal from Friday 18th December until the new system is in place in the New Year.
We will be sending further instructions to you in due course and appreciate your patience during this exciting time.
We currently have a small number of governor vacancies at Stanley and I would encourage any parent or carer with an active interest in education to contact the school so we can have a discussion about the possibility of joining the governing body. We are particularly interested in hearing from anyone with experience in marketing, finance or the legal profession. However, if you have any different experience we are genuinely interested in hearing from you. It is the student’s school and I am sure there are many of you who could make a positive contribution to the school and your child’s education. If you are interested, please contact me directly at email@example.com.
Goodbye and Good Luck
It is with sadness that I have to tell you that Miss Ceri Morton will be leaving us on the 17th December. Miss Morton will be jetting off to start a new life in Australia early in the New Year with her partner.
We will miss her dedication, diligence and sunny disposition and I know she will be sorely missed by students and staff alike. We wish her all the best in her new life ‘down under’ and hope that she keeps in touch with everyone here at Stanley.
We will be providing parents/carers with information relating to options during the first half of the new term so please keep a watch for this important information being released.
The next meeting will take place on Tuesday 12th January 2016 at 6pm. The focus of the meeting will be the Options programme for 2016-2018 and there will also be an opportunity to pose questions to staff and senior leaders.
Stanley Christmas Cards
Students were invited to enter a competition to design the Christmas card that would be sent from School and the winner was Eleanor Backshall 7C1. We were delighted with the design and hope that it brought Christmas cheer to those we sent it to.
Able, Gifted and Talented
Over the past term, the programme co-ordinator Miss Van-Eker has organised various activities to support our more able students. This has involved a recent trip to Liverpool Hope University where students were actively involved in various activities which allowed them to experience university life and start to think about higher education.
Another activity which has been enthusiastically attended is our Archaeology sessions which is being delivered by an ex-student from Stanley and alumni of Oxford University. This has been an opportunity for the students to access a subject which is outside the normal school curriculum.
To ensure students eligible for the programme make good progress their performance is being closely scrutinised at each tracking point.
There will be further exciting opportunities in the New Year for our more able students including college trips, Connexions adviser intervention sessions, specialised university lectures and leadership opportunities.
We recently held the Pantomime ‘Rumpelstiltskin’ and if you did not get the chance to come and see it you missed out on a traditional Christmas treat. The students worked tirelessly to perfect their performance and staff worked just as hard in helping them do this, providing support behind the scenes with lighting, make up, costumes, set design and a multitude of other roles including providing refreshments during the interval and the setting up of the hall by our site team.
The whole production was fantastic and we cannot wait for the next one. In particular, thanks must go to Miss Sally Cassidy, Mr Leo Winstanley and Miss Laura Cregg without whom these productions would not take place.
Please remember that the first point of contact is your child’s form tutor, details of which are available on the school website.
If you have still not reached a point of satisfaction this will then be escalated to the Assistant Faculty Leader/Faculty Leader or an individual staff member that has the relevant responsibility to your issue, please do not hesitate to contact the school if you have any concerns.
We now use Groupcall for all of our communication home and believe this is a very important form of communication, as it is instant and direct to the parent; no longer do you need to rely on your child to bring a letter home nor will you find a letter that is out of date in the bottom of your child’s bag!
Please ensure we have a current and up to date email address and if you do not have access to the internet, please let us know so we can make alternative arrangements.
Year 10 Student Progress Evening
This will take place on Thursday 21st January 2016 between 4 and 7pm.
As previously, the booking system will be available online for parents to arrange appointments 2 weeks prior, we will send a Groupcall message nearer the time to remind you.
School office hours
During the holiday period the school office will be open during 9am and 4pm on Friday 18th, Monday 21st and Tuesday 22nd December and the whole school site will then be closed from Wednesday 23rd December until Monday 4th January 2016 when term re-commences.
It just remains for me to wish all the students, staff and governors a very happy, peaceful and safe Christmas holiday.
