The second half term has been just as busy as the first half, with football, basketball and rugby competitions dominating the calendar for the boys.

The boys have had excellent success in the Merseyside Rugby Union competitions with the Year 7/8 teams winning every game, they will play the Sefton schools final at Southport Rugby Club in the New Year, and they remain unbeaten in the Lancashire cup! Year 9/10 team have progressed to the next stage in the Lancashire cup and have also reached the final stage in the Sefton cup, losing only 2 matches on their way.

In basketball Key Stage 3 students have maintained the excellent standards set in previous years. We are looking to build on the success of previous years where Stanley have been successful in every age group and competed in the Sefton finals on a regular basis. Year 7 and 8 have already been involved in tournaments hosted at Stanley and Year 10 deserve a special mention as they have remained unbeaten since Year 7!

In football our Year 7s have made an exceptional start to their football careers at Stanley. They have played 16 matches losing just 2 and have qualified for the last 16 in the National Cup. Our Year 8 team have also had a great year reaching the last 16 of the National Cup with a game against Cardinal Newman, Warrington to be played in the New Year. Year 9 boys have also reached the last 16 in the National Cup competition with a game against West Hill, Tameside to be played in the New Year.

Finally Year 10 have a National Cup last 32 game to be arranged in Carlisle but are looking to build on the success of last year when they reached the National Cup final, only losing on penalties. For a small school that has already achieved national success with 2 different year groups we really are maintaining and developing a growing reputation; not just locally but on a national scale.

In the recent Sefton Schools Cross Country championships on Birkdale Common, 62 of our boys and girls ran with great determination.  There were exceptional team performances in Year 7, 8 and 9 boys and girls and superb individual performances by Mollie Riding, Anabelle Riding, Amiee Hill and Georgia Doherty, Ben Coates, Robert Jackson and Matthew Chong. The next cross country race will be taking place in January where we aim to build on the success of our Key Stage 3 teams.

In Badminton, the Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 boys both finished runners up in the Sefton Badminton Championships, narrowly missing out on progressing to the Regional Finals. The girls Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 badminton teams also finished in second place in their Sefton finals. There are future fixtures against Birkdale and Christ the King to look forward to in the New Year.
