Mrs ShaweHeadteacher’s update

Dear Stanley Families

What a whirlwind of a first week back.  Year 11 are continuing to do a sterling job as they maintain their dedication and focus on their final examinations.  I’m a little sad to imagine that we will not have them for much longer, but also excited for the amazing things they will achieve in life.  We are experiencing some excellent sporting achievements from teams and individuals, and we are looking forward to a successful athletics season.  Teams of staff have started visiting our new starters for 2023-24 in their primary schools, to find out all about our new family members and be ready to welcome them to Year 7 in September 2023.  I have also been inundated with Junior Leadership applications from our Year 10 students, there will be some excellent weekend reading ahead.

Next week we observe the anniversary of the death of one of our students, Semina Halliwell.  Semina was loved by many and was a very popular and happy soul.  Our deepest thoughts remain with the family and all who are impacted at this time.  As always, we are here to support all individuals who suffer grief associated with this and other sad events.  Should you require support or guidance please do contact the school.  A memorial gathering is being held over the weekend, and due to the emotional toll, this may have on your children, please ensure they have sufficient adult supervision to ensure their needs are catered for and that Semina is remembered in an appropriate and respectful way.

I’d like to inform you of a staff name change.  Miss Copping will now be known as Mrs Kelly. Congratulations on getting married over the spring half term break.

Finally, this week, I wish you all a lovely and restful weekend – I believe suncream will be a necessity. Please keep an eye out for signs of heat exhaustion and symptoms of over exposure to the sun but have a great time!
