Headteacher’s update

Good afternoon Stanley Families

Can I firstly start by thanking you for the support shown when we had to close the school on Wednesday 1st February 2023 due to Industrial Action.  We will review our response leading up to every strike day and ensure we are open where possible.  This will be communicated to families with enough time to organise any arrangements you may need to make.  The next day which will impact us in the North West will be Tuesday 28th February.

As half term is creeping closer, we can see students getting tired, please support us by maintaining good sleeping routines, especially for the little ones.  Year 11 will be planning their half term revision sessions and personal study timetables, please encourage breaks and some planned opportunities to do something they enjoy.  Revision is so powerful in short chunks and once a Year 11 (or any learner) settles into a technique which suits them well, they will fly and enjoy the success they feel with the progress they are making.

This week has been an exciting week for Year 9 as we start discussing the options process, this will have occurred in lessons, assemblies and during form time.  All families of Year 9 have been sent information relating to the great choices the students have and how to go about the process.  As always we are here to help so please do not hesitate to contact the school if you have any questions or queries about the courses or the process.

We recently conducted a family survey.  Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback to the school.  One of our instant actions has been to update areas of the school website to ensure information is easier to get hold of.  If you visit the Curriculum area on our school website you will be able to see the planned curriculum for subjects and year groups.  There are a couple of subjects under review currently, however middle leaders have put together all the information to help families see what their children are learning and when.  We also have a new Events section where you can keep up to date with events taking place in school.

Please be fore warned that on Friday 10th February we have ‘Wear something Pink day’ to raise money for Brest Cancer Awareness.

Have a lovely weekend
